The Chicago Sky made four WNBA Draft selections on Monday night. After choosing Ajša Sivka with the 10th overall selection, Chicago drafted TCU guard Hailey Van Lith one pick later. This move reunites Van Lith with Angel Reese, as the two played together for one season at LSU (2023-24).
In her brief stint with LSU before transferring to TCU, Van Lith averaged 11.6 points and 3.6 assists in 33 games. Her 37.8% clip from the field marked a career-low. LSU fell 94-87 to Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2024 Elite Eight, a game in which Van Lith scored just nine points on 2-for-10 shooting (via Sports Reference).

In a post on X, Reese referenced LSU falling short in 2024, expressing her excitement to run it back with Van Lith in the WNBA.

While Van Lith also shared her excitement for rejoining Reese, one clip trending on social media has fans saddened for the former LSU guard. Despite Van Lith saying “we’re ready” when asked about joining Chicago, several fans felt her reaction lacked sincerity.
“Hailey Van Lith smiling through the pain of returning to toxic hell,” a post on X read.
“i feel bad for her ngl,” one comment read.
“HVL is feeling sick,” another claimed.
“Feel sorry for her,” a fan added. “She looks like she’s going to cry.”
“Mannn oh mannn free HVL,” a fan wrote.
“it’s sad,” said another.
“Yeah I won’t be convinced that was a ‘happy’ interview hahaha girl is having flashbacks,” another wrote.
